About catfest

I adore cats. I like most animals, really, but I’ve always had cats in my life. They’ve been my friends, my brothers and sisters and now, my kids. Other than squealing about the adorability of my sweet, sweet children, I like to write (type), edit, paint and watch tv and movies with my awesome husband.

I was inspired to write about cats about two months ago when my husband and I took a friend to tea. I’d been looking for a job for three months after “finishing” school. Previously, I had quit my office job of seven years to back to school to take “enrichment” classes: painting, Spanish, creative writing, Improv, jewelry-making in the hopes that I would find my Inspiration. When my school money ran out in February, it was time for me to get back to work. Unfortunately, there were no jobs to be found. In April, after a lot of pestering, I got a minimum-wage, part-time, food service job with no benefits.

At tea, the three of us discussed ‘dream jobs’ and brainstormed a list. My little-girl dream had been to be a writer, but I was also very sensitive and once discouraged, I pretty much gave it up. The job discussion turned to general chatting and something made me think of cat haikus. I thought it would be fun to write a blog of cat haikus. Although it wasn’t a job, it would be something fun and easy to do in my substantial free time. I could write just one per week or per day or whenever I wanted and it would be a very small start to writing again. So, why cats? I love cats. I have cats. I’ve always had cats. And I like comedy. And haikus. So, I thought I’d write about my babies and add in some haiku silliness when I felt one coming on. I hope you like my ‘blog!
